Ok, so you didn't behave so well over the holiday weekend but your head is back in the game and you are back on track. Can your popup in weight be a positive thing? Can you take advantage of the weight gain? The answer is yes, especially if you are trying to build muscle. It is a common understanding in the weight training world that in order to build muscle you must eat and gain weight. Lots of body builders while they are training for a competition will put on 20-50 lbs to gain muscle and then cut it right before a competition to get their body fat down to less than 10%.

Before you go crazy I can tell you right now that YOU are NOT that disciplined so don't try it. But there is no reason not to take advantage of your short term weight gain to build muscle. So when the scale pops up hit the weights, hard. Heavy weight low reps, take advantage of the short term body fat to build some lean muscle. Make sure during this time you are hitting or exceeding your protein goals.
