I didn't eat that stuff at all on pureed.  I focused on protein dense food -- i actually pureed up meat loaf w/ spinach & gravy.  I needed something savory.

I certainly didn't eat those things!  I stuck with high protein foods.

Grits, oatmeal and cream of wheat are on my full liquid diet. I have been eating half pack of cream of wheat a day for the fiber value, but once I move to pureed foods, I am giving the box to my folks.

I did not eat oatmeal, mashed potatoes or cream of wheat during my pureed stage.  Too many carbs for me.

I tried to eat foods that were high in protein and that could be pureed.  Eggface's ricotta bake and soups were my go-to options.

I would limit the carbs and avoid mashed potatoes and oatmeal except for very limited occasions. I bought a ninja food processor and pureed things like chicken salad (chicken, plain greek yogurt, hard boiled egg), egg salad, tuna salad (all very similar recipes). I also liked to eat baby food veggies like butternut squash, carrots, and some others (look for the ones that are JUST the veggie with no additives. No protein, but still getting some healthy foods in your body). I couldn't even look at the baby food meats without gagging, so wasn't going there. Chobani makes kids greek yogurt in a tube that is only 2 oz, so easier to handle than the 5 oz. containers greek yogurt usually comes in. However, the Dannon Lite and Fit greek yogurt is good too and the coconut and banana flavors don't have chunks.

I agree about the Dannon Lite and Fit Greek yogurt.  There are several flavors without chunks, including Key Lime, Caramel Macchiatto, Chocolate Raspberry, Banana Cream, etc.  I eat one almost every day since it's delicious, good source of protein and goes down easily.

If your surgeon and nutritionist say it's ok, then it's ok. I think they're more concerned that you are able to eat things that give you nutrition and calories without hurting or upsetting your stomach as it heals. Later on they'll redirect you to the lean, dense protein as your primary food source, but for now, don't worry about it :)

I was told to always eat protein first, and then if there was room, it was fine to have a small amount of veg or something like oatmeal, so the main thing I'd worry about with the oatmeal or mashed potatoes would be that they're taking up space where you really need protein. Could you add protein powder to the oats or mashed potatoes? During the pureed stage, I couldn't deal much with food that wasn't already pureed, so I ate a lot of plain 0% Fage yogurt and soup with protein powder mixed in. I don't eat meat, so my tastes and preferences are a little different, but soup was AWESOME during the pureed stage, particularly those ones that come in a box. I couldn't do the tomato, but the Pacific brand red lentil, carrot ginger, and potato leek were all great with protein powder, and after so many shakes and so much yogurt, something hot and savory was SO GOOD. Best of luck to you!
