Yogurt...
I was out shopping yesterday and started to look at the sugar content of things...I love greek yogurt, but never paid attention to the amount of sugar in them...even plain! Any ideas for brands, that aren't gross, but have little to no sugar content? My normal go to's have 12-18 grams! I just know that will be a no-no post-op...
I did notice cottage cheese isn't that bad, especially the one with fiber in it - only 3 grams of sugar.
Thanks!!

There is sugar in milk, so all yogurt will have sugar in it as a result. Reading the ingredients to find ones that don't have added sugar is what you should be doing and, in my experience, plain yogurt has no added sugar.

As noted, the milk the yogurt is made from has some sugar in it naturally, so some will always be there even in plain greek yogurt, but there are variations depending upon the mix of milks and creams that are used. The yogurts that I use, from Trader Joes, vary from 6 g sugar per cup for their nonfat and 2% fat versions to 9 g for their full fat variety - I guess that the extra milk solids from the richer creams they have in their full fat blend naturally has more sugar than the lighter milks used in their non and low fat versions. Their vanilla nonfat version has 22 g, which is typical of sweetened and flavored yogurts. I never got along with plain yogurt, (nor with the overly sweet flavored or artificially sweetened "low carb" yogurts) so I blended my own using the vanilla yogurt cut with plainand a little vanilla extract added to bring back the vanilla flavor; this yielded a reasonable compromise of 11 g sugar per cup (but then i never worried about carb counts anyway - quality of the food was always much more important than carb counts.) Adding a bit of sweetness with some jam, sugar free or otherwise, is also a good approach that is often used.

Chobani simply 100 has 12 g protein, 15 g carbs usually with 5 g fiber-so if you're a net carb person that brings it to 10g. They only have about 4 flavors that I've seen and usually only 2 choices at any particular store.
Weeziebeth has the best solution. The chobanni simply 100 I purchased the other day had only 5 grams of sugar and it tasted heavenly!!!

Dannon Light & Fit Greek has 80 calories, 12g protein, and 9g carbs. Shoprite has quite a few flavors.
I don't worry too much about the naturally occurring sugar in plain greek yogurt (and I am fanatical about avoiding sugar) ever since reading "The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Living" by Phinney & Volek. They claim that more than half of the lactose (a sugar) is broken down into lactic acid which doesn't prompt an insulin response the way lactose does. But I don't think I do as well on my diets if I eat a lot of greek yogurt at the expense of meat.
