Yes, it's been quite a while since I've posted but, I'm here tonight to let everyone know that today is the 20 month anniversary of my surgery and all is well.  Actually, all is great!   Today I am a happy, healthy 61 year old man.  I reached my lowest weight of 189lbs at one year (from a high of 340 lbs) and have managed to maintain that weight within a couple of pounds.  I exercise almost daily for an hour (mainly a 3 mile jog or a 15-20 mile bike ride).  I eat almost anything I want including carbs and alcohol - all within reasonable limits - sometimes :).  I find my restriction has chanced a bit but, I come no where close to the amounts I used to eat before surgery.

I always said that if I could loose a few pounds, I could start moving again.  Well, I took full advantage of my weight loss and vowed to move in some way everyday. I truly believe the key to maintaining my new weight is to keep moving and burning excess calories.   Before the surgery I had pain in my hips and knees just walking around.  Today, I CAN RUN FOR AN HOUR!  AMAZING!

Old habits don't go away. I still eat out of boredom and especially at night while watching TV. The difference now is I don't eat as much and I try to make better choices - and I move every day.

Everyone who's had this surgery or is contemplating having  this surgery can be successful in meeting their goals and maintaining them.  It really just takes a little commitment to yourself.  Does loosing 150 lbs solve all your problems? Absolutely not.  But, you will look and feel a hell of a lot better trying to solve those problems.

It's funny.  When I first joined this group and read some of the success stories, I actually thought that some of them were "plugged in" to just make me feel better. Now I realize that I am one of the success stories and VSG is a wonderful, marvelous procedure that has helped me become healthy once again and enjoy many of the things life has to offer.

Happy journeys!
