I apologize in advance is this question has already been answered in the past, but it's something I've been curious about. How long will it be before I can stop sipping everything? I sip all day long and it drives me nuts because I'm so thirsty I just want to gulp down a whole bottle of water!lol It is also really hard to sip on stuff when you aren't allowed to use a straw (I have always preferred using a straw).

I was able to drink normally fairly soon post-op.  It really depends on the person!  And there are many people who have a better time drinking with straws post-op.  I'm not sure why the restriction is there for some surgeons.

Does your surgeon clear you to drink normal or is that something you kind of figure out on your own? I am also wondering since I had the hernia repair if that will cause me to have to wait longer to drink normally.

I too had a hernia repair during my VSG. I drank from a straw pretty much as soon as I got home from the hospital (day 4 post op)

I have used a straw everyday since :)

I prefer a straw.

I still can't drink water like I used to, but it's getting easier.

At about 3-4 weeks out there was a BIG difference in how fast I could drink liquids.  I wouldn't say that I could "gulp" and I wouldn't say that I "guzzle" water now.  But I got back to drinking at a normal rate at a month out.

Thank you:) I will be glad when that time comes so it doesn't take me forever to drink one bottle of water. Lol ;)
