I am 3 weeks post VGS, at my first follow up I have only lost 10lbs. Just feels like it should be more. I have been struggling emotionally, like I am morning the loss of food. Does this get better? I am on soft foods, finally finished with the liquid shakes, but not getting enough protein. I am lucky I get in 500-700 calories a day, and 20-30 gm of protein. I have been feeling very tired and I have no energy. Not sure what to do.

10lb at 3 weeks is awesome! Often weight loss will stall for a week or two at about this time. What are you eating? 700 calories and only 30g of protein means you are likely eating way too many carbs for long term weightloss.

cottage cheese refried bean cheese pureed chicken. and soups pureed..

my first thing I tried was mashed potatoes and I only had like 1/4 cup, and ended up in the bathroom... ugh. everything goes down very slow, and feels gross.

It does get better! I felt very tired at this stage. It really sounds like you should still be relying on protein shakes for most of your calories. Your body may not be ready for food yet. I was on a liquid diet for 4 weeks after surgery.

Mashed potatoes, and similar carbs, will not help you reach your goal.

I promise it gets better! I felt a bit down from 3 weeks to 6 weeks. Then the black cloud began to lift as I made peace with the surgery, stopped mourning the loss of my friend, food, and got my energy back.

You probably need to supplement with the protein shakes until you can get enough protein from food alone. 60-70g is the minimum you should be getting now and it's likely not possible without some shakes. More protein will help with the energy as will time.

PS - it was also around 6 weeks for me when eating didn't feel so gross, but it still hasn't regained the "feels good to eat" feeling, which I see as a benefit since that's what got me obese in the first place. Eating is just eating now. There is some pleasure involved if something tastes good, but it's not the same feeling as pre-surgery when I chased the feeling of eating and fullness.

The weight loss will come, but you should straighten out your macros. For 600 calories you should be getting 60 to 80 grams of protein. Either you are getting way too many carbs or fat, or both.

Carbs are an issue, fat less so. But right now you need protein to heal and maintain muscle, and for other assorted things, like hair and nails.

I struggled emotionally as well at week 3. I found I was missing food but mostly missing the interaction with people. I had been withdrawing a bit because it was hard to watch others eat when I couldn't. But I started to reconnect with people, just brought my own food to dinner and the cloud started to lift. By week 4 I started to feel better. Only in week 5. Count on those you can for support. It goes get better and once the scale mives done more it will.

I only get in about 400-500 calories a day but get s out 45 grams of protein. I don't eat protein shakes ( not s big fan) but everyone is different. Hang in there, it will pass, reach out to your family or friends for support.
