Hi, Having surgery October 2, and was wondering if you lose a lot of hair? I had lap band 2008 and did not have a lot of hair loss.

I started losing hair around my forehead at 4 months, but it started coming back with baby fine hair at about 9 months out, now it is fully back.

Telogen Effluvium is one of those things that can't be predicted - it'll either happen, or it won't. But if it does, a good hairstyle can help hide the loss!

I was 55 when I had my surgery and was in menopause. I started losing hair at about 3.5-4 months and it began to slow at about 8 months. My hair is now filling back in -- I lost it all over. I have really thick hair so it wasn't terribly noticeable. I'm 13 months out now and it's starting to really come back. I take biotin - started right after surgery.

As I understand it, it is your body reacting to the shock of the surgery and rapid weight loss. Best of luck!

Keep on losing!

I was 56 at surgery, hair loss started at about 4 months, am 11 months out and it seems to have slowed down a lot. I had thin, fine hair to begin with, so this has been quite hard for me. Changing to bangs and a left side part helped hide it a lot, but I really am looking forward to it growing back. I have growth around the hairline, but not seeing much yet in the rest of my hair. I'm hoping I'm one of the lucky ones who gets thicker regrowth...I could used it!! LOL fingers crossed.

If you didn't lose hair previously you may not. I have had several abdominal surgeries (including WLS) and I did not lose hair after any of them. I was 61 when I had WLS.

I lost ALLOT of hair ... but I started out with ALLOT of hair. In fact if it weren't for fact that I dyed my hair a metallic red that made it so I could see the shed hairs all over the place I wouldn't have noticed it at all. Basically ... I think that hair loss might be relative to the amount of hair you have. If your hair is thinner to begin with its going to be noticeable. If your hair is thicker it won't be.

If you fall down you just have to get back up.
