Anyone Making Their Own Low-Carb or Keto Protein Bars?

I'm about 16 weeks post VSG. I know that I'm probably asking for the moon here, but I'm interested in a good-tasting low-carb or Keto protein bar that is sweet, but doesn't include a lot of artificial sweeteners and other ingredients that are best avoided like corn and corn products, soy and soy products, canola oil, carrageenan, etc. Does anyone have a good recipe? Or do you know of such a bar that I can buy?

Personally, I don't eat them. Too many calories for a small amount of food, and I don't find things like that keep me satiated like meat/cheese, regular solid protein. I'd much rather have a piece of steak. If it's about portability because you want to have something on hand if you're out or something, I still choose jerky or nuts rather than a protein bar, but that's me.

ETA: I haven't used protein shakes or protein bars or supplements since 3 months post-op.

Bars can be an OK option if you can hit good macros (10g protein or more per 100 calories, very few carbs). But generally, you're best off getting your nutrition from "real" food.

What stuff are you eating right now? I bet we can help you brainstorm some other options!

Hi. I'm at 16 weeks so I haven't been cleared for pork or beef, although I do occasionally eat a bit of pepperoni. I was recently cleared for raw vegetables, but my sleeve is usually tight with just 2 ounces of protein. I've been mostly eating salmon, tuna, cheese, sliced turkey, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, a few nuts, and protein shakes. I added a little sauerkraut during the day for vitamin k2 and well frankly to keep things moving in the right direction. I have some unflavored protein powder, but I can definitely taste it whenever I add it to anything so I try to avoid it. I don't know where chicken comes in, but I hear a lot of people have problems with it so I haven't tried it yet.

I had no problems with chicken or ground beef early on, and was allowed solid beef and pork at 3 months post op. I haven't had any issues with meat at all. You should give it a try, you won't know until you do!
