I am only 10 weeks post-op from Sleeve Surgery.  Only the first couple of weeks did I experience no desire to eat.  It has returned with a vengeance.  Has this happened to anyone else?  What can be done to make it go back?

Thanks !!!!

It could be several things but check with your surgeon. Some possibilities are that the nerves are healing and you now feel some hunger again, could be acid and you would need a PPI or some type of acid reducer, could be head hunger too.

Mine came back when I ate carbs and went away again when I ate mostly protein.  Things like fruit, rice, potatoes, pasta, sugar, bread, pastry will make you hungry.

Even if they are part of your plan and you are allowed to eat them, you will be less hungry and lose more weight without them.

I had physical hunger like a week after RNY. I get it very strong cause my sugar drops especially in the morning. I've been told alot of people get physical hunger.

Physical hunger or head hunger?

Physical hunger came back very slowly and intermittently as was the experience of my husband and several friends in my local support group. Which is NOT to say real hunger cannot come back with a vengance, but those I know have experienced true hunger in very sporadic return in the beginning. So if you have it 'with a vengance' I wonder if it is just you getting sucked in by head hunger.

How I deal with them are very different.

Please consult your surgeon & nutritionist for how to do it their way.  Biggest regret? Not doing this 10 years ago! Every day is better than the day before...and it was a pretty great day!

When you notice that "hunger" starting, pop a couple sugar-free Tums into your mouth.   If the "hunger" goes away then it was never hunger to begin with...it's acid.  Excess acid productions perfectly mimics intense hunger.  It's a ***** but can be controlled with a good PPI.  And if you're taking one it's not the right one for you if you're still having extreme acid breakthrough.

If it's acid, work with your doctor to get on something that will control it.  Thinking you're hungry when you're really not will seriously sabotage your losing efforts.  I know....I went through this!
