Diabetes
Yes. I am of the mindset we are never "cured" of Diabetes, but hopefully better "managed". It took me 10 months to completely come off insulin, post op, and another 6 months, to come off oral meds. My Diabetes is now MANAGED, with nutrition and lifestyle choices...and I know I have the power to screw that up, at any time, because I have DONE it, a few times, over the past 15 years...
What "side effects", to meds, are you speaking of?

We Can Do Hard Things
I was diagnosed Type 2 in July 2014. I managed it with diet for the first 18 months, but could never get my BS below 160. I went on metformin 6 months prior to surgery, and it helped bring my BS down to the 128 range. I stopped taking the metformin 2 weeks prior to surgery, and haven't taken it since.
With the weight loss and diet changes post-surgery, like Gwen, I am managing my diabetes. My BS stays between 95-105 most of the time, with only rare after-meal spikes.
