Q: I had gastric bypass 8 years ago and unfortunately regained back most of my weight.  I can't make up my mind if I want to have a lap-band placed in or have a full revision where I would be bypassed more and have my pouch tighten.  My question for you is how do people who had prior bypass surgery do with a lap-band?  Are results the same as people who have not had surgery?  Also, I hear about a lot of complication with the lap-band.  Do you think most problems occur from being banded too tight?  Thanks for your help.-darnell329

A. Patients who had previous bypass surgery lose weight very slowly with the band as they already have a smaller stomach.  There are complications, as are there with bypass.  You have to make sure you are following a healthy diet that is not too high in carbs to be successful.-Trace W. Curry, M.D.
