Weight gain at hospital

Hey everyone, Im new to the site and had my RNY done on Monday.

When I went into the hospital I weighted 317lbs and when I came home on Tuesday my scale said 330lbs. I was shocked by this but thought it was due to IV fluids and figured my weight would go back down to where it was.

As of today I still haven't gotten back down to my pre op weight - Im 322lb.

I was wondering if anyone else experiences this with their surgery?

Thanks!

I came home weighing more than when I went in, too! It was a bit discouraging but didn't take too long to lose it.  Enjoy the journey, I am.

Everybody weighs more after surgery. It is due to the enormous amount of fluids they pump into you after surgery. No worries you are on your way to fast weight loss.

LIFE IS HARD, BUT GIVING UP HAS NO REWARDS!!!

I'm not sure it's been so long ago now, but I think I was up 27 lbs after surgery. Yes, it's the IV fluid, and saline is salt, with makes the body hold fluid. Don't give it a second thought, and drink MORE water, since that's the best way to make your body purge the excess, and will have the second benefit of helping out your kidneys during what is a stressful phase for them as well.

I went into surgery at 397 and went home from the hospital 2 days later weighing 411. It took, me a while to lose the weight, but it did come off. Drink lots of water and WALK! It's the fluid that is doing it.
