Yea, we will be able to compare notes as the newbies on the block!!  Be prepared your two week pre op meetings will be long.  I was there from 8:15am to 1:00pm, but you are so excited and taking in so much information that it doesn’t seem that long.

I hope you have a totally uneventful recovery.

I am a Kemmeter DS Patient also.  I was three years out 1-2-12. He will be doing surgery on me 3-13-12. I've had some issues that more than likely have nothing to do with my DS (it is probably an ovary issue) but he is going in there with my OB/GYN. Dr. K is taking out my gallbladder and eyeballing all of his fine work just to make sure. Your in GREAT hands!!! I don't think I am a great person for telling you how to get your ducks in a row. I found that I really didn't need much in the hospital. You'll be sipping, walking, and laying in a drug induced haze. I don't think I read a thing while I was in there. Stuff for dry lips, maybe a robe to cover more of you then those gowns will. I found that just like a lot of people say...EVERYTHING changes...did for me. What I liked before surgury, taste wise turned around totally. I hated chewables too but you WON'T be able to do regular vitamins for quite some time. I wouldn't stock up too much on protein powder either because you very well will HATE it after. Just don't go over board on stocking up on taste based things. I remember laughing at all the requirements, the water, the vitamins a hahahah piece of cake! NOT!!!!! I used to slam a huge 32 oz water every morning, LOVED water. Now even in the middle of August I turn into an ice cube if I even drink 6 oz. I can remember laying in the hospital and using those little tiny medicine cups and letting 2 tbsp of protein drink slide down my throat and being FULL!!! I was off all pain meds second day home. I used ice packs, so maybe extra ice if you don't have an ice maker. I slept on the couch with lot's of pillows and sat in a platform rocker during the day. Can't remember how long I was out of my bed. Just really hard to lat flat and to do any rolling around. I remember being SUPER emotional and crying a lot, about loving my children and feeling bad about raising them to be fat...... It is crazy what major surgery does to you!!!! Best thing I EVER did. I would do it again in a heartbeat!!! Wish I would have done it 18 years ago when I first looked into WLS. But so grateful I didn't! I would have had another surgery and that would not have been good. Not playing the mine is better than yours but for me the DS was the perfect choice! I wish you well I don't come here to OH anymore too many trolls and I am NOT into drama! I'll save you a seat on the bench! Welcome to the Dark Dide WE HAVE COOKIES!!!!!!! LOL

Wow, we seem to have a lot in common.  I looked into wls way back when I was eighteen and the doctor back then told me he would never do that type of surgery on someone so young.  Then back in 2006 I tried again, but my insurance made me do the six month weight loss.  I was very sucessful with that and thought, this is a piece of cake, and I don’t need surgery.  I would have done a RNY.  Needless to say I gained all that weight back plus.  So now here I am and I truly believe this is the right surgery for me. I'm so glad I didn’t have one of those other surgeries and having to be doing a revision like I see so many others doing.

I understand about how you feel with your children.  My son is waiting to see how I do with this surgery, and then he wants to have one also.  Thanks for the advice about the taste buds changing.  Did you find that you started to like flavors that you before hated or only added to your lists of dislikes?

I had a hysterectomy in October that was complicated and extremely painful.  I was bedbound for three weeks, so I am hoping this surgery is not as bad!  I wish you nothing but good for your upcoming surgery and hope to continue to pull from your knowledge on the ds.  Thanks

Thank you for the well wishes!!  I am truly amazed at how nice and supportive everyone on here has been!   I thought I might get a comment from one or two people, but the out pouring of encouragement and friendship has totally humbled me.

Thanks for saving me that seat because I plan on sitting on it in 11days 11hrs 47min!!!  But who’s counting….

I certainly understand where you are coming from Jennifer.

My babies are still young (9 year old son and an almost 5 year old daughter).  I am so afra.id that my poor eatting habits have rubbed off on my children, I DON'T want this life for them.

I have 21 days left.  I have viewed this week as my last week of being able to eat what I like.  I am not going to go out and eat a box of Twinkies or anything, but to be able to enjoy pizza or whatever.  This weekend I start the pre-op diet and so things will be changing.
