The week of a race I emphasis carbs until the day before when I eat normally but on the lighter side. I.E., no t-bone steak the night before. It should be something that digests easily.

I also go easy on the fiber until the day before too.

I do a very similar routine to what Marie suggested.  I up the carbs for 3-4 days prior to the event then the night before back to a normal eating routine, maybe a bit less for the night before.

The day of I get up a couple hours before I have to leave the house and have something like some oatmeal and a banana, or some toast a banan and some peanutbutter.

I like having those extra couple hours just to make sure my stomach is settled and I don't have any GI issues.

The first time you do something - It's going to be a personal record!
