I've signed up for my first and found a 16 week training schedule that takes me right to the big day on 9/30.  I had RNY 6/6/11 and was wondering if there is anything different I should do with my diet to help (more protein???).  Lots of advice says complex carbs but that's for people who didn't have our surgery.  Also, any water advice to make sure I get enough since I can't gulp it?  I just have no idea what to expect on race day.  My goal is to finish the race not to be the fastest.

You can expect some misery and some euphoria.  As far as carbs, those are a must.  You can't do endurance sports without them. Be careful of overdoing it because your appetite may increase with longer distances.   You will figure out what works for you as you train.  As for water, you can carry a camel back or some water bottles in your hands.  That allows you to drink more evenly throughout the race and refill them at the water stops.
