Weekly Workouts 12/8

Hi all!  I hope you're ready for a GREAT week.  This is the last week of my training plan so it's tapering even though I'm not actually running a real race this weekend.  I'll still be pretending to run a 5k in my development - my partner said he'd stand at the halfway point with water and a motivational poster ;)  

Mon - yoga at home
Tue - 5k training and yoga stretching, yoga class, physical therapy for shoulder
Wed - yoga class, zumba class, water aerobics class
Thur - 5k training and yoga stretching
Fri - tai chi class, pilates class, physical therapy for shoulder
Sat - 5k training and yoga stretching
Sun - yoga at home

I find that it's easier for me to do yoga in the morning on my weekend rest day if it's a day that my partner is out doing his own race training.  Something about knowing he's exercising motivates me to exercise as well.

More closely approximating being "back" than in previous weeks.... still can't believe it's only been 3 weeks since my first ultra! Here's what I'm doing this week:

Monday- rest day

Tuesday- am 6mi run, pm 6mi trail run (yep, jumping up the mileage too quickly. At least so says my IT band...)

Wednesday - track speedwork (1mi warmup, 2x400, 2x800, 1x1200, 1 mi cooldown)

Thursday - swimming! Did my first swim for 11min, 850 yards (I think!)

Friday - pm run

Saturday - trail run

Sunday - half-marathon training group: 8 mi run

First ultra: Stone Mill 50 miler 11/15/14 13:44:38, First Full Marathon: Marine Corps 10/27/13 4:57:11Half Marathon PR 2:04:43 at Shamrock VA Beach Half-Marathon, 12/2/12 First Half-Marathon 2:32:47, 5K PR  Run Under the Lights 5K 27:23 on 11/23/13, 10K PR 52:53 Pike's Peek 10K 4/21/13(1st timed run) Accumen 8K 51:09 10/14/12.

Do you foam roll for your IT band?  My marathoning partner does and loves it.  I've yet to try the foam roller - I think it intimidates me for some reason.

Yep, love my foam roller! It doesn't usually hurt as bad as others may imply.... Feels like a massage - if you're rolling over a sore area, it's like when an MT works on a knot so it twinges just for a moment while working the knot out.

I've been using one at physical therapy the past few sessions.  It can be brutal!  But oh so good.
