Blood question..

Hey guys- I have a new one for all you Vets.  I got my blood testest for all my different health issues and the PCP said even with the b12 shots and all the iron I take Im extremely anemic.  I went for a tightening this am ahe the Dr. said to go see a hemotologist.  I guess my question is have any of you had issues like this and had to get blood transfusions? I really don't know much about them and I'm kinda nervous.

Thanks for any info guys!

Hi Nikki,

I'm not, but my sister is very anemic and she gets iron infusions (an IV of iron) to help with her numbers.  Maybe you can ask about that when you see the specialist.

Good luck!

I've had "anemia of chronic disease" (meaning that I have low hematocrit for a reason they can't find) for about 7 years. Hemotologist says it is completely unrelated to the band and diet.

I have to go to the hemotologist as well, but I get the iron infusions as well. You just sit there for 30 to 45 mins with an iv hooked up to you with a small bag of iron dripped into the iv.

So he may be just sending you for that instead of a full blood transfusion.
Thanks to you all who answered... I made my consult appt. for next weds. So we shall see what this Dr. thinks I need.  I really appreciate it.. hope you all are having a good day!!
