Gastric Segmentation Please Help me I don't know where to turn.

I had a nonadjustable band put on by Dr. Oria in 2005. I lost 100 lbs. but have gained back 40 lbs. I'm really scared, I mean really scared and don't know where to turn especially after many posts I have read. I've been suffering very severe reflux for a long time that wakes me up at night. Does anyone out there know? I have BCBS for insurance. Please someone help.

You should start with the surgeon who put in the band but I've never heard of a non adjustable band do you mean a fobi ring? Reflux is not a good thing so see him as soon as possible. Your primary doc may be able to give you something for the reflux but only the surgeon can fix it. Also never heard of a gastric segmentation maybe it's just a difference in terminology.

Hislady, original bands were non-adjustable. The most common in the US was, I think, the Molina band. They weren't that good! All the other band problems and , of course, couldn't be adjusted to allow for loss of fat. I am very surprised indeed to hear of one bring fitted in 2005. Most were fitted in the early 1990s.

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

If you can't make contact with your original surgeon, I suggest a gastroenterologist.

I would think that you need an endoscopy, ata minimum,to check out what is going on in there.

A gastro guy can also prescribe meds for your reflux and check for ulcers, hiatal hernia, etc.

You need to see a doctor -and soon.  Acid reflux is a sign something is wrong and the reflux itseof can cause long term oesophageal damage.

I know very little about non-adjustable bands as they haven't been used, as far as I know,  in the UK for about 20 years. But I imagine as they can't be adjusted, you will have to have it removed. If it is like a Molina band, you may need to revise to the sleeve as Molina bands are very hard to remove. But I beleve there were several other types available so yours may be closer to the modern adjustable bands which can usually be removed without revising if that is your preference.

But whatever it is, whatever the outcome, you need to see a specialist.
