What happens at the info class, gastric class and doctors appointment?

Wow!  That's a big question...but in a nutshell, here's what you can expect (though bear in mind that all hospitals will do things a little different - I can only speak to HRRH).
The info class was an overview of the surgery; the basics of the physiology of it and an introduction to the process - what happens before, during and after surgery.  It is intended to educate you about the process so you can determine if you want to proceed.
The gastric class is more in depth and gives a lot of information about what your diet & nutrition will look like for the rest of your life.  There is also some discussion about the behavioural changes needed to be successful.   You will have opportunity to ask questions - but they should be general in nature - any specifics about your own case/condition should be directed to your surgeon.
Doctors appointments focus on your medical condition, any co-morbidities you may have and whether from a medical perspective, you are a suitable candidate for this surgery.
Again, this is a brief description of the process I went through at HRRH...my understanding is that most hospitals are similar but not exactly the same.
Hope it was helpful...good luck !

I don't think there is a Dr. Smith - maybe Dr. Starr?  He was my surgeon.

Good job Kerry.  I was gonna say 'not much', lol.   It's such a basic overview that you get from the different appointments that by the time I go to see dr Glaser the internist I was busting with questions and frustration.  It turns out the internist's job is just to have his tech give you an ECG and ask you about your medical history (again) and medically clear you for surgery.

I think that there are so many people involved that you kinda get passed around without being told what to expect.  It's not like with your GP being the main doc and sending you to a specialist and you always end up going back to him for updates etc.

Don't be nervous, it's mostly informational at the beginning.  Even the first time meeting the surgeon. He will show you the 3 main types of surgery, tell you that they only do Roux-en-Y and see if they've scared you off.  Most of your useful information will come from your own research.  This site is the best way and reading some books would also be helpful.
