are there some foods that you just don't eat any longer because the "effects" are...well ...embrassing...at times??

for me that would include any type of processed meats, specifically sausage...whether it be breakfast sausage, pepperoni or the gold old mild italian sausage. (which I miss)

not much pasta sauce either or salad dressing, especially  anything with lots of spice in it.

I know there are a couple of other no-no's for me but I can't think of them at this time.

Let's not. lol

I think the only thing that gets to my stomach (other than being overfull with pasta or rice, which is not pleasant) is sugar alcohols.  I get a wee bit "tooty"  if I have a little too much sf syrup in my coffee.

Aren't you using Davinci syrup?  Mine are all made with splenda and have no sugar alcohols at all.

Mostly.  I also have some Torani and SB's.  I'll have to look what's in those ones.

Even too much Davinci makes my stomach lurch and gives me some gas.

Exactly what are sugar alcohols, and what do they do to you?

Had RNY surgery July 22/11, St. Joe's Hamilton, with the awesome Dr. Scott Gmora.  Had abdominoplasty August 2/13, Scarborough, with equally awesome Dr. Michael Kreidstein.

Sugar alcohols are artificial sweeteners - all of the "itol" ones (i.e. maltitol, sorbitol, etc.).  Some people actually dump on them, even though they're not real sugar.  For me, I get a little queasy if I've had a little too much and also gassy.  If you really overdo it, they can have a real laxative effect.

Would that explain why the sugar-free brownie I tried yesterday made me feel gross?  Won't be bothering with that again.

Could be, yep!  No sugar added ice cream makes me feel bleah too.  I can do small amounts, like a shot of sf syrup to make a latte, but much more than that and I feel pretty yucky.

I'm pre op and I find the sugar free worther's originals and sugar free twizzlers have a real laxative effect. In the states at Cracker Barrel I had their sugar free apple pie and ice cream and thought I would die. And thisnis all pre op!
