I have a consultation with Dr. Wicklum - May 10

Monica called me this morning. 

I'm sick at home with a cold so was here to receive the call.  I've been working on a casual assignment with the government since mid February and have been phoning home three to four times daily to check my voice messages.  The *first* day I take off sick I get the call from the hospital.  Who would have thought it.

Anyway, I have an appointment for Thursday, May 10 with Dr. Wicklum for a consultation.  I will be receiving a new blood test requisition (because apparently they are not using the ones they handed out nine months ago anymore), an ECG requisiton and a "brown" questionnaire (as opposed to another colour?)), all in the mail. 

I asked about the steps after the consultation (nurse, etc.) and was told that it depends on the results of the consultation and if I am deemed OK for surgery (health, age (! my huge concern, at 63), etc.

Have any other Ottawa people done the consultation first, then the appointments?

Well, that's exciting! Maybe they're doing teh consultation first because of your age? i know someone who had surgery, i believe at 64 yrs old, so i dont think that will be a barrier, as long as you're in good health otherwise.

I wonder, too, if the consultation first is because of my age.  Aside from morbid obesity, diabetes, sleep apnea, I'm in good health.

Met someone in the Hamilton centre who was in for her first month session and she was 70. Don't worry about age, focus on your health and the prospect of a new start in life. Wishing you the best.

i went through Ottawa and met with Dr. Wicklum first and put my name on the "list" and then had an assortment of things I had to do first before I had the surgery - orientations, behavorialist, nutritionist, group session, met the Dr and then surgery very quickly after that. I was about 9 mos from start to finish.

Yes, they told me the same thing about the blood test requisition form when I talked with their office.
I didn't get a questionnaire in the mail, just the blood test requisition.

I'm glad you have a date to get the ball rolling!!!
