Got my date!
I just called my family doctor to see about getting the history and physical done so he can fill out the form for me. He said I should call back in September. I hope there won't be a problem. He thought that this assessment shouldn't be done until two or three weeks before surgery but the form says up to three months. I can't tell from what is listed on the form whether there is any testing that needs to done that might take a long time, so I don't want to leave it too late.
Well, I won't worry. I'll just make sure to call at the very beginning of September just to be sure.

My appt. was at 8 a.m., and it went fast so I was out just after 9:00. So I probably just missed you!

But then I realized - this gives me three months to prepare things at work, to think about everything I need to arrange at home, time to maybe do some of the workbook exercises I've been putting off (the workbooks they recommended at the orientation session), and to have the occasional "food funeral" if I feel I need to.
So I guess what I'm saying is, try not to be too sad - think of this as the last few months of your old life, preparing for the new one. And there's nothing stopping you from trying to start new habits early. Something else I should probably do as well! :)
I figure the surgery is just one thing on my journey to a new me - a really big thing, but not the only thing. I like Dawn's posts on the "head issues" we have to deal with on our journey, and we can start working on those right away, before surgery even happens.

Onward&Downward, I agree, it's all about how you look at it. I was also hoping that by some fluke I'd get a date in September, but this actually works out much better for me. We're having my oldest daughter's birthday party on September 30th, so I won't have to worry about what state I'll be in for that. I've also ordered some books and should also go back over all of those worksheets we did at orientation.
