I lost my job in July and have been putting off looking for a new one until after my surgery. I called the clinic a few weeks ago and asked when I could expect surgery and I was told 4-6 weeks from meeting the surgeon. I had my heart set on September. I'm not usually so negative but today I am a real Debbie Downer. I will start to see the positives but it might take me a few days.

I'm sorry to hear that, Alli. I agree, in your situation the delay is tough to swallow.

Oh dear. I'm really sorry to hear that. I see what you mean now.

That said, although it isn't a wonderful thing to get a new job and then have to go off on sick leave, any new employer would have to accommodate you.

I really regret nit taking a couple of college courses this summer that I needed to finish a certificate. I'm kicking myself now because the reason I didn't sign up for them back in April is because I thought I might have surgery in July.

I told myself after it was too late that I wasn't going to put off anything while waiting for surgery again.

I think you should feel free to go ahead and look for work if you don't want to put it on hold. Any new employer would be lucky to have you, and they will survive the few weeks you have to take off for surgery. Heck, pregnant women look for work even when they know they will be taking a whole year off!
