One of the thing that I found just horrible (so many examples)  and that really made me think of weight limitations was an episode on a doctor show...I think it was Grey's anatomy where they had to  scan  an extremely obese patient (he was protrayed as being 600 lbs) and he couldn't fit on their equipment so they had to take him t the ZOO!!!  I mean really...if you think asking for a seatbelt extension on an airplane is embarassing.....

So anyway, now I have to go for an MRI and I'm afraid I won't fit :(

I'm 6' tall, 310 lbs...usually manage to fly without the seatbelt extender...but...that would just be like something that happens to me.

Well I'm NOT going to the ZOO!!

So...I need feedback people...anyone had a MRI while still overweight?

Nathalie,
You will fit, it will feel very confining, but you will. I work in a diagnostic imaging department(radiographer, student). plus ive had one, im 6 feet tall and i was about 340-350 when i had it done. if youre claustrophobic, i advise you to take the meds they offer you will probably feel more comfortable with your hands above your head unless of course its the area of interest. good luck!!

i was 294lbs and i am 5'8" and i fit fine in Guelph... each machine is different... and it depends where the MRI is needed on your body sometimes they dont need to slide you all the way in

remember each machine is different but I only had to go in up to my underpits... my head was left out... hopefully they can do that for you too... but it depends on the age of the machine and the center.. I know guelphs MRI is brand spankin new ...

I had to have one too for my hyster... my uterus was so enlarged they needed to get a better picture then what an ultrasound could do.. mine turned out to be 4X the size of normal so I had it out abdominally... like a C section

Nathalie, Hubby was also claustrophobic, and the doctor gave him a small precriptions for a few tranquilizers so he would relax before he had the scan. It really helped him.

Nothing like a good tranquilizer before a medical testing proceedure.

Standard MRI max weight is 350. Um... at 6' and 310 I would figure you would fit... Not to be too blunt or anything but... What size of pants do you wear? I fit into one when I wore a penningtons 26 London style Jean and had room...

last time I went in I was about 310 - it was a super tight fit and I freaked - I went back to my doctor and ended up going to Buffalo to an open MRI - it was better and Ohip paid for it, personally I hope I dont need another one for a long long time
