TWH/TEGH - Sodium in Broth on Opti?

I'm on Day 2 of Optifast today.  Yesterday I had some Campbells broth from a Tetra pack (no sodium and it didn't taste great).   Today I'm staying overnight at a hotel for work, so I brought powdered broth (to mix with ho****er from the coffee maker).  I just had a cup and it tasted great!  I took a look at the Sodium content and it's really high at 510 mg per tsp - no wonder it tasted so good.

I took another look at the TWH Opti instructions, and they don't specify whether or not the broth has to be low sodium (just that it needs to be less than 10 cals/serving).   Does this mean that it's okay to drink the powdered broth that I bought?  Or should I stick with the no sodium version (which to be honest, I'll probably just go without all together).

Also, there doesn't seem to be any restriction on how much broth/jello/SF popsicles that can be consumed.  Today I've had 10 cals worth of broth and 20 cals of jello (it's been a day full of temptation at this meeting, so brought some jello into the meeting room to stay on track).  Is this okay?  What is the upper limit of calories besides the Optifast?

Any advice would be great!
Julia

I'm sorry to hear you aren't doing well.  I've heard the 3rd day is the worst!  I am doing okay - it's a bit tough being here at a meeting with tons of food!  My team went out for a 5-course dinner with wine pairings tonight (part of our offsite meeting) - I had to skip going all together as that would just be way too tempting.  I just want to get through the rest of this week and Thanksgiving weekend - I think after that things should get easier.

I had 4 jello cups in total today (5 cals each), and then the broth.  I'll have one more shake around 8 p.m. and that's it.

I hope tomorrow is better for you!

Hey girls hang in there!  From what I've read on hear and my friends, the first few days are the worst!  Sounds like you're both doing great with these meeting obstacles and now Thanksgiving!  Keep up the hard work you can do it!  Sending you both positive vibes!

I am only allowed low soduim broth, and just broth, black tea and water.
Yes, Thanksgiving is going to be the next hurdle and I have my 2 grandaughters
for the  next 5 days while my daughter goes to Vegas!  That will be interesting
but so far so good!  3 weeks in and 3 more to go on opti-fast!
Keep up the good work :-)

I'm not sure what they advise in TO but had my surgery in Hamilton on July 20Th/12 and did 3 weeks of Op ti prior to that. I did not count calories just ate until I was full. Did not worry about low salt just that I was not hungry. I lost 30 pounds in that 3 weeks and the hospital said I was doing fantastic. Am down 88.5 as of last Sunday and have my 3 month post op later this month. Op ti does get easier a you get into it farther but it's not about starving and calories....do the best you can.

I had about 3 bowls of soup a day with powered broth and about 3 sf jellos a day and my surgeon had no complaints.  Good Luck

Thanks, Donna!  I really did like the broth I had today, so if it won't hinder my progress on Opti I think I'll have some more tomorrow and going forward. :)
