Got checked into hospital unexpectedly yesterday
So some of you might remember me mentioning a sore throat after my race Sunday. Well it kept getting worse with swelling. By Tuesday I couldn't even eat soup and passed out after a bath. I called to get an appointment with my Doctor but the earliest I could get was yesterday at 2:45. So I waited, getting worse. I felt, why go to the ER, since they saw me Sunday and the only thing they treated was the bursitis in my hip.
I see my Dr. and he orders me to emergency at the hospital, but won't let me drive myself. My Mom came and took me, they admitted me, started pumping fluids, antibiotics and steroids into me. Later they gave me morphine. They let me go this afternoon, but I have to go to a VON clinic at 6:30 to get a pump to carry around for the next 5 days. I see the throat specialist again on Monday.
It's amazing how quickly we can get dehydrated. My Mother kept commenting on how my lips were drawn and thin and cracked, and after 1500cc of fluid it almost looked like I'd had botox because they plumped back out lol
They gave me another iv of morphine before I left so I feel pretty good right now. I just got 1/2 a premier protein shake down.
Just a friendly reminder not to let things go too long.

Heather, get well soon. I guess dehydration can happen quickly.
Get better soon! Glad you're getting the help you need.

Thanks everyone. The pump is a little CAD pump with a big ol bag of antibiotics that pumps into me. The problem was that I didn't get up to take the pain meds as scheduled last night and today the swelling is bad again and I can't talk. Having trouble getting liquids in again, so much swelling that half the time they go back up my sinus from the back of my throat. Pain is severe. I just crushed them in greek yogurt about 40 minutes ago and got them in, knowing that although the pain is terrible, it won't get better if I don't get them in.
After my surgery for bypass, I took extra strength tylenol for a few days and was fine. This pain does not compare at all. At least I still have my pill crusher and lots of leftover pudding and soups.
