Any older gals out there?

I've been reading a few of the recent posts on here and wondered if everyone was young, in their 30's for example? Can anyone advise what kind of results a mid 50's lady could expect?

I had my surgery 2 years ago the day before my 49th birthday. I'm now 51 and I've been at goal for just over a year. I went into surgery weighing 267 or so and this morning I was 137. I am currently maintaining my weight between 132 - 137 range. I do weigh myself everyday and adjust my calorie intake or my activity level to keep me in my range.

I'm not a gym rat but I do walk as much as possible. I also find that I no longer hesitate to do things around the house; I used to put off laundry etc as I didn't want to have to go up and down the stairs. I park farther away from the door to stores, take the stairs instead of the elevator when I can.

I find that my joints; hips and knees don't ache all the time and I no longer complain about my feet hurting if I have to stand or walk a lot.

I definitely have a flabby belly and my thighs are very wrinkled but I look pretty good in clothes.

There are definitely a few ladies over 50 who have had surgery so I'm certain that you'll get other responses as well.

Truly the only regret that I've had since having my RNY is that I didn't do it when I was in my 20's!  If you have any specific questions that you would like me to respond too feel free to ask.

All the best. Muriel

I'm one of the couple younger ones in the group I was recommending earlier... Others are in your age bracket or closer to it.

I had my surgery almost 13 months ago (VSG) and i was 57 at the time.  I have lost so far about 85 pounds and would like to lose 20 more if i can.  If i can't, then so be it...I was wearing a 22/24 or 3/4x.  Now i am either a 14/16 or L/XL.

Yes, it would be fantastic to get into a smaller size, but I am happy with my progress so far.   I have so much more energy, have gone off all my diabetes meds, my BP meds are cut in half, and am so much more happy.  I can do things i couldn't do before.  I love walking, and even going down and up stairs is good for me.

Yes, i still have a flabby belly, and flabby arms, but don't regret anything.

I hope that helps.

I had my surgery a month before turning 58, at my highest I weighed 257, surgery wt was 243 and currently at 5 months out I weigh 194- everyone is very pleased with my progress--as am I- I was considered a light weight (needing to lose less than 100 pounds) but my personal goal is to get to 150---so far I'm doing great!!

I have you all beat LOL I was 60 when I had surgery and am now 61. I am currently at 180 down from 287. I wear about a size 14. I no longer take meds for high blood pressure or diabetes. I have more energy that I can believe and have to remeber I am not 30 . I wish I had had this surgery years ago!
