9 Month follow up in Kingston
Hi all,
Just got back from my 9 month follow up at Kingston. (this was only my second time going there since having my file transferred from Toronto)
This appointment was to touch base with the Nurse again and meet the rest of the team: the Dietician and the Social Worker. The good news is that I have met my clinic goals. They are happy with my progress and again said I could be the poster child for the surgery.
The stuff I need to work on includes
- more fiber in my diet, at least 15g a day.
- I need to stop seeing myself as fat (even though according to BMI I am still overweight) I made a joke about my upcoming 10k race, as I'm in the Athena category, I said I hoped to be the fastest of the fat people. Not allowed. Not the right attitude about myself.
Also because I had wine at New Years and I'm in high stress about my job (they're cutting 5 beds at the hospital where I work and I was the last Part-Time RPN hired) and I don't know if I'll have a job in April, I have to meet with the Social Worker at my one year follow up in May. That is fine by me, he was a pleasant fellow to talk to, very supportive. It felt good to let it all out. He's worried about transfer addiction. It's nice to know that even though they just picked me up as a patient, they do care.
The dietician also gave me some great suggestions about my running and directed me to a book called Sports Nutrition Guidebook by Nancy Clark. She also gave me a list of high fiber foods to incorporate in. I am to decrease my protein intake and increase my carbs and fiber. (some days my protein got as high as 120g and I've only been averaging 10g of fiber). She had some neat suggestions for my marathon training, insisting I have something with me, be it gels or homemade blocks.
I felt pretty darn good leaving there. The clinic is not focused on the scale but rather the patient happiness and quality of life. (which is a good thing since their scale is pretty inaccurate. It had been moved after a leak and all week long patients have been mentioning how much higher their weight is than they expected. )
Now to focus on fixing myself a bit more before my 1 year follow up.
Thanks Ian. Feeling pretty good up here in cloud 9
True enough. Thanks
Thanks, I know I was bragging a bit but darn it, it felt good
Great Job girl :) !! Try not to stress too much about your job (I know easier said than done) but QHC will find you a spot ---- if not I KNOW we are in the works for putting up a posting for a perm PT position for a RPN :) ill let u know when the posting comes out :)---our hours are 830-430 :) much nicer than shift work
Aww. Thanks Nicole. That does sound nice. Thank you, it went a long way towards making me feel better.
Congratulations! Sounds like things are on track with your weight loss and exercise programs for sure. Most of us struggle with the poor self image; the head games make it difficult to maintain a good body image.
I add bran buds to my yogurt and cottage cheese daily. It's an easy way to increase your fibre intake. Or have a fibre one bar now and again, it will increase your fibre and carbs in one shot.
Keep up the good work.
