ANOTHER question.....

on 2/16/13 6:41 am - Kingston, Canada

I am 4 months out...

the breath - I brushed my tongue, AND found sugar free breath mints...

the toots - they eventually subsided in potency! I no longer run away from myself when I let one rip!

body odour - it too passed

I think the lack of variety in our diet pre and post op are the cause of the evil scents...but now I am eating a wider range of foods and things have evened out. My skin was super dry too, more than even before. It's till dry, but tolerable!

Funny thing happened to me.....

I had my surgery at HRRH and (as a lot of other OHers have posted) it's an older hospital with old lingering smells.  When I was discharged, I rushed home.... showered... washed all my clothes.... showered again.... brushed my teeth....  NO MATTER WHAT I DID, I couldn't get rid of the ol' HRRH stench and I could still smell my stinky roommate, even with a hundred miles between us!

Then one day.... my girlfriend came for a visit.  And, as only a TRUE GIRLFRIEND would tell it to you straight up - she told me she too could smell HRRH on me.  We laughed and laughed and giggled.  D'oh - it took all that time for the two of us to figure out that it wasn't HRRH that smelled - it was ME.

She told me I should call them up and apologize to them for all the bad thoughts I'd had and all the bad things I'd said about them.

OMG, you all have me sitting here laughing so hard, especially your experience of the hospital smelling and then realizing that it was you. OMG I can't stop laughing.  Believe me I understand what you are saying, but you guys just tell it so funny.

May you all smell like roses very soon!  kiss

I think I popped a stitch when my friend ever-so-seriously looked at me over top of her bifocals and told me I should phone HRRH and apologize for being so judgemental.

And for the record.... I am still uncertain if I smell (as in, foul odour emanating from said body, and perhaps, all orifices contained within)... or if I smell funny (as in, my nose doesn't work the same and has become hypersensitive).

Big sigh.  I suppose it could be both - or my nose just not likin' what it's smellin'.

I just pictured everyone on the bench getting up to leave and the bench tipped over with me hanging on with one hand, nose plugged with other...

2by4, OMG, I have read your post about your journey with cancer and surgeries.  I think you are absolutely amazing, brave, and you must be optimistic.  When we come into these groups we don''t always realize some of the other things people have gone through because we are so focused on this surgery.  But you have come such a long way and now this surgery, I must say, I am so humbled after reading your story.  I wish you all the success possible, and I believe you will do very well.  I'm sure you will be able to give lots of great advice to all of us.  Bravo to you!

Awww, thanks Cathy.

You're right - the only thing incurable is my optimism.
