B1 vitamin blood test

Went to the lab today to have my blood taken asper the requisition for sent from St Joes Hamilton. All the test were covered by OHIP except the B1 test. That test alone was to be a 75 dollar charge. Needless to say, that test was not done today.

Has anyone had this before? The charge? Or the test? I went thru Life Labs.

If anyone can chime in here, it would be greatly appreciated.

Mine was covered but only in the hospital where the bariatric Center is located - not life labs or any of the community labs.

Give your centre a call, maybe they can shed some light for you.

Mine was also covered but done at the civic which is where I'm having my surgery. When I was given the req I was told to get it done there.

Same happened to me at the Life Labs in Oshawa and it was 50 dollars. I did my labs for my upcoming 3 month post-op which is on March 6th at TWH.

Yep you will pay unless done in a hospital lab generally. I know that for instance, my community does not offer that at the hospital (unless you are in the hospital) so we all pay $75. The good thing is that they don't do b1 every time...and well, b1 is one SCARY deficiency so it's a good thing to get it done and rule it out if you can.

Hi there - when I had my B1 test done a couple of months ago at a local lab, I also had to pay the $75 fee, but, luckily, my insurance company paid most of it.  I wouldn't skip it if I were you as it's an important vitamin which your body needs.  Good luck!

I went to st. Joes today and they told me the same thing.  It is covered under the bariatric program if you get your blood work done at the lab at st. Joes.  I have to get my blood work done at the beginning of march for my 3 month appointment on April 8
