TWH.. When my daughter had surgery due to her crohns, they did not give her anything like that. She ended up with multiple embolisms in both lung. Scary stuff!!! She had to be on blood thinners for 6 months after her surgery. The surgery was at Credit valley in Mississauga, so perhaps different protocols.
I am glad to hear they are taking the extra percautions....

I had my surgery at TWH and they did not give me compression stockings nor did I see any of the 5-6 others WLS patients on the floor wearing them and I had no issue's.
Sometimes they make you wear them if you are going to not be mobile for a while after surgery but at TWH I was out of bed going to the bathroom as soon as I got back to my room then within half hour after that up walking the halls.
Referral- March 2012, Letter April 19, Orientation TWH- June 6, NP - July 3, Sleep Apena test July 16, Internist and SW - July 17, Nutritional class - July 23, Dietician appt. July 30th, Psych-Social appt - Aug 20th. Follow up with doctor sleep apena Aug. 28th Surgeons appt. - Dec. 14th Dr. Jackson. Surgery date - Feb 12 2013 - VSG
Yup for precaution for clots.. everyone gets to put them on pre surgery and there is no choice lol..

I wasn't given compression stockings nor was I given Heparin at Toronto Western Hospital. They said I was not at-risk.

I think you should ask your surgeon tomorrow when you meet with him. He will know best what the policies of his hospital are.
