Opti at Last
Well it's day one of Opti...I'm two shakes down and about to choke down the third. This morning I had a vanilla shake with a tsp of instant coffee and a squirt of SF Chocolate Macadamia nut syrup. It was AWESOME!!! Then I came to work and brought two packets of chocolate, I had one for lunch with just ice and it was God awful! Gonna have to play with that one too! Only 53 more to go! lol
Honestly, the first 3 days of Opti are the worst, then you begin to get used to it. I dreamt of eating food the 1st three nights I was on Opti, then I didn't. Oddly enough, in one dream I was only eating raw cucumber, not junk food or comfort food - LOL.
Just be sure to space out the 4 shakes so that you aren't left ravenous and waiting 2 hours until the next shake. That helped me get through my 3 weeks of Opti..
Another trick - if your centre allows unlimited broth - is to take the broth (I used the PC Blue Menu chicken broth - 10 calories/cup) and take 2 or 3 tetra packs and simmer them with herbs (2 bay leaves, several garlic cloves, 6 sprigs of fresh thyme, and a bunch of fresh parsley) and let the mixture stand in the fridge and filter out the herbs when you pour it, as you use it. It makes the broth taste and smell much better. The kitchen definitely smells wonderful after you simmer the broth.
I also bought some SF freezies from the Low Carb Grocery Store in Markham.
A good portion of SF Jello every meal (if your centre permits it) also helped fill me up.

Vanilla is good with a bit of cinnamon:). It gets better, trust me!

This will be me in a week and a half. Dreading it. I've tried various protein drinks in the past and can't get them down. I'm very sensitive to flavours so Opti will definitely be a challenge. Plug my nose and gulp will probably be my method with a water chaser. It will all be worth it in the end so we CAN do this!
I'm on day 4 of optifast and I went and bought Torani sugar free syrups to mix with mine and it is not too bad gets rid of the taste . I blend mine in my magic bullet with ice it tastes better cold for me anyway. I also tried to make it thicker more like a pudding and that was a fail not so good lol. As for hunger for me it works out that i start to get hungry about 15 mins before my next shake ( i go bout every 4 hrs ) plus I eat jello. I hope that it gets better for you tho
Pure peppermint extract is better than sf peppermint syrup to add to chocolate, because they syrup will add even more sweetness, but the extract just adds peppermint flavor to the already sweet mixture. Experiment around with extracts and spices. I primarily used them instead of syrups.
