Is this normal?
Hi all - My GP referred me for bariatric surgery and I received my letter from St. Joe's in Hamilton today. My orientation appointment is in December! That's 8 months away...eek...is that normal? My doctor had said to expect a 4 month wait. Just wondering...I understand the process of appointments, I was just surprised that it was that long to see if I am a candidate.
I guess...if it is possible..I will call and see if I can get on a cancelation list. Any feedback is most appreciated.

I'm going through Ottawa and I had a long wait. I don't remember the dates, but it was probably 8-9 months. I'm waiting for my surgery date now, so I'm still in the process.
I was referred in June 2012 and had my orientation January 2013 and my first appts this coming June. It is a long wait but I have used this time to research, prepare and work on my patience lol. Everytime I call for cancelations they tell me that they don't have a cnacelation list...not sure if that is true, worth a try though.
I was referred the end of Oct, got my Letter the beginning of Nov and I go for orientation May 27...I'm also going through St. Joes, I asked the same thing a few months back, as I thought it seemed like a very long wait too when you see others go so quickly from referral to orientation, but it seems to be pretty normal for St. Joes.
