Carbs, protein and calories?
I have been put through the Nut but haven't had the post-op nutrition class yet. Many seem to count the carbs, protein and calories they are taking in even before surgery. I am not sure what the guidelines are for this. No one has really discussed it with me in detail. Can someone explain to me how I go about the protein levels and how to figure them out? Carbs and Calories are always listed...protein not always. Thanks for any information you can give me
Sue
It's great, gets you used to making smarter choices, and (at least for me) keeps you honest.
Good luck!

All macronutrients have to be listed so if the protein isn't listed then it's likely because it's zero. Legally they have to put the calorires/fat/carbs/protein on everything. I have tried a few programs over the years and my two favourites are Sparkpeople and My Fitness Pal Both are good jus****ch some of the pre-entered totals as they have been wrong a few times.
Thank you for the information....I have signed up for Fitness Pal. Found the information helpful Would either of you like to be friends on the site? I have signed up as smallisland ...so you would recognize my name. I also found the label information helpful too...thanks again and have a good day
At my orientation we were given a booklet along with my first meeting with our dietitian we were told 15 carbs, 5 fat, 10 or less of sugars and to shoot for a minimum of 60-80 of protein per day.
Hope this helps, your orientation and meetings should go over all these things with you, not to worry, so much to learn but you will get more comfortable with all of this as you move through your journey

Thank you everyone for the information...i think i will follow the 5g of fat, 8g of sugar (that one they did tell me) and 15 of carbs. I will try and get the protein in but that seems like a lot. Will work on it though. Thank you again, Sue
My centre didn't tell us anything about calories or carbs /fat. I read about everyone else doing so and I feared I wasn't being instructed well enough.
For the first year my focus was on protein (60 grams minimum) and liquids. I think this is good. There are so many adjustments and things to work out at first that focusing on ratios might just be too overwhelming.
