From what I have read, it's because people really dislike the taste. There are things you can do to jazz it up, like adding instant coffee, or cocoa....but I have not started the opti myself yet to say. I just know I have read a a lot of people saying they can't stomach it.

I was really freaking out about starting opti. Once I got going though and after about 4-5 days, I actually didn't mind them. I had to take opti for three weeks and there were days I just couldn't get that forth one in. I know sounds insane for someone who could eat and eat and eat, but somehow, getting just one more in, seemed impossible especially by my third week.
As nuts as this may sound, I missed them the first few weeks after my wls. They were so easy to do and taste way better than any protein shake I have had to gag down so far. I know, I am nuts, lol!
hi Darksyde... personally I liked the opti. When I wasnt to hurried , I put it in the blender with ice, it was very good that way. Also using fridge water made it much more tasty. I had almost 2 boxes left. I just didnt need 4 a day, no real hunger... but that damn head hunger... scheesh! I find that it still drives me to the fridge. But , I have had 2 not so good experiences after eating when I shouldnt, this should keep me on the straight and narrow lmao
After reading all of the replies I feel really wierd.
This is my second experience with Opti and neither has been great. I can't deal with the taste of the vanilla - just can't choke it down at all, although I don't mind the chocolate. I was on Opti for 3 months last time (not for RNY) and was hungry almost the entire time.
I'm not hungry ALL the time but I sure do want all 4 of my shakes this time around. I also find that half the time they leave me feeling nauseous afterward. That said, tomorrow's my last day of them.
