How long is / was your hospital stay?

I had my education class last week at the OWMC and the BEH said the hospital stay would be 2.2 days ... yet when the NUT came in and spoke she said, some people are starting to go home after 1 night.  I think, I would want to stay the 2nd night, just to make sure all is well !!

What has other people's experiences been?

don't know how it is in Ottawa. At HRRH it is 2 nights if all goes well. ( surgery on Thursday late morning and out on Saturday by 12:00  in my case)

At HRRH I was 3 days because of previously existing cardiac/apnea issues.

I had surgery Wednesday morning, first of the day.   I was told I could go home on Thursday.  I wasn't feeling well enough to leave.  Problem solved?  I stopped urinating, and they hung four bags of fluids to get me going again.   :)   I left at noon on Friday.

Ottawa WMC -- oooh!   One piece of advice.   As the four bariatric beds are located in the Trauma Unit, be sure your friends/family know in advance so when they call to find out your room number, they don't freak when they hear you are in there.   It got my son really concerned that something bad had happened.   :)

mmm

PS - another note.  Ottawa has only four bariatric beds, in two rooms.  You could be rooming co-ed.  I was;  see my blog for the post in January on the roommate from hell.   :)

Hi Jen1016,

I went to TWH for all my pre-surgical interviews, but I had surgery at TEGH.  At the TWH we were told the stay would be two nights, which is exactly what happened - I went in Monday at 9:30am and left Wednesday around 11am.  I was glad that I was in the TEGH for that second night because I woke up in more pain than I'd been in before and couldn't stop shaking until the nurse hung some morphine.

I think it's extremely rare to go home after one night!  I had no complications, although my sleep apnea kept me in the recovery room until 7pm - it was just their standard precautionary practice.  I've actually never heard of anyone on OH being sent home after one night - has anyone had that happen?

I think i would jump at the chance to leave after 1 night.  Working in a hospital, I really dont want to be there any longer than i have too.

I was at Ottawa for a week and a half because of complications, but everyone else I met who had the surgery in that time was there for 2 nights.

I was in 2 nights, but could have gone home after 1 (was given option, but wanted to stay to ease my mind).  I was also going home to 2 young boys.  Count on 2, but it could be only 1, if all goes well.

In Ottawa, I was told I would be there 2 nights.  I had high blood pressure and diabetes (i.e. high risk patient).  I went home the morning of the third day.
