6 month follow-up appt. in Ottawa
Yesterday I had my 6 month follow-up appt. at the Ottawa Clinic. I met with the Nurse Practioner.
Everything is going really good :)
She was happy with my diet and exercise routine. She said that I could try to get a bit more protein in each day because I am usually just getting in the minimum of 60g, so, I am going to try to bump that up a bit. All of my blood work looks good.We discussed my vitamins, especially the B12. I let her know that I didn't think I was getting enough from the Opurity multi that I take and that what I had heard was that we can't absorb the oral kind of B12. She said that some people can absorb enough B12 from oral pills/caplets after RNY but did say that some people do need to get more B12 than others and from other sources, so was fine with me adding the sublingual to my diet. Not sure what I think of that, but I know I will be taking the sublingual from here on out.
I asked her about what I should be striving for in terms of my goal weight. So, we did the calculations for the 50-80% loss that they say will happen with surgery. I would fall between 166 lbs to 206 lbs to be within the 50-80% weight loss margin. I currently weigh 193.2 lbs on their scales, so, I have lost 80 lbs and 60% of my excess weight. She was very happy with this. She said I probably still have a good 6-12 months of losing ahead of me, so, figures I will probably get down to the 166 lbs or even less. She did explain again about the bounce back that happens between 18-24 months post-op. Once we are done losing, we usually gain back between 10-20 lbs and that is where we settle for our final weight. Then, that can fluctuate 5-10 lbs either way on a regular basis.
All I know is that I am very happy right now, so, I feel anymore weight loss will be a bonus!
