Has anyone else heard of the delays?

I'm through HHRH, and although I 'passed' all my appts and have approval - I can't get a date. When I saw the surgeon on Oct 30th - the person ahead of me came out with her date. They were booking into May, but thought they might have some dates in February open up for high risk surgeries (that's me!), so when I hadn't heard anything for a couple of weeks, I called them only to find out that the program has run out of $$$ for this fiscal (they underestimated the # of surgeries they would perform this year. Sadly some that are already booked may need to be rescheduled (but don't panic - they have ways of redistributing funding and if you are already booked it could go ahead as planned).

But come April (new fiscal), there will be a backup, and now I may be looking at next summer for my surgery.

I'm just so sad. I'm trying to look for the silver lining - but seeing nothing but black.

St. Joe's Toronto ran out of funding for the year in the summer so everyone going through Sudbury had dates 8 months or more down the road.  St. Joe's Hamilton and TWH have both picked up some of the slack as they still had funding left so some of those people are being sent there now. Perhaps HRRH will do the same with their patients that have super long waits to surgery.

I talked to Audrey (RN at Guelph) yesterday. They're moving slowly through the rest of their year's roster until they find out whether or not OHIP will give them more money (she said they'd know in about two weeks or so). If OHIP does give them more money, she said they'd fast-track some more people. So, people cleared in August, like me, are looking at possibly March-ish (if no extra $), or maybe February (if more $).

If you were cleared in August have you gone to the post op class or are scheduled for the one on monday? I'm just trying to find out if I am looking at March for my surgery since I am going on Monday.

I haven't yet received notice as to which post op class I'm supposed to go to. Audrey thought I might be in the late December or January class, but it's all pretty vague at the moment... I don't mind the wait so much, I just want to know!

I was told, I believe at the post-op class, that Guelph will be adding an additional surgeon before the year is up... that has to get things moving quicker there.

When we went to the info session on Monday, Jennifer the dietician/speaker, told us that all of us sitting there would have our surgeries before the summer. No one asked, she just told us that.

I found that she even spoke like we would all be approved, did anyone else that has attended the Humber sessions find that?

Perhaps it it is something they tend to do to ease everyone's minds?

If you have your surgery next summer (which would be a yearish from your orientation) you are still having your surgery sooner than most people in Ontario. Just giving you a little perspective.

As I began to love myself I freed myself of anything that is no good for my health - people, food, situations, things, and anything that drew me down and away from myself. At first I called this attitude a healthy egoism. Now I know its "love of oneself". Charlie Chaplin
