Vitamin k is to help reduce the risk of bleeding after surgery. You are to take it two days before your procedure. As for filling it, you can get it filled anywhere. The tablet is not available so they normally give the injection to be taken orally. If you take it to a pharmacy they should be able to tell you why options are available to you. Hope this helps :)

It took my pharmacy 5 days to get my vitamin k... it was a liquid that i squirted into back of my mouth.  It cost less then 3 dollars with my benefit plan and I was to take the whole dose 3 days before surgery.

I got the same 'script from the surgeon. A dose 10 days prior and 2 days prior.

I visited my Shoppers Drug Mart that I use and they said they could not fill it - not even as a special order.

They suggested I try a pharmacy at a hospital - so I'll be visiting SDM at TWH next time I'm there.

Ask your centre when to take it. They gave it to you and will know when you need to have it for the best results

They give you two syringes, one for 10 days before and one for 2 days before. You squirt it in your mouth. You just keep it in the fridge. I filled mine at the pharmacy at Credit Valley Hospital.  Any hospital pharmacy should be able to fill it. Good Luck.

I had a hard time finding it at regular pharmacies and no one offered to order it in.  They said it was by injection only and that was that.  I ended up calling the pharmacy in the hospital my surgery was at (Toronto East General) and faxed them the script.  They were able to fill it and I picked it up when I was there for my pre-op tests.
