Question for fitbit, mysfit, vivofit, etc users

So in preparation for surgery I've treated myself to the garmin vivofit.  I wanted a fully submersible tracker.  So far so good, except today I noticed the steps are not going up when I'm shopping with a cart.  I assume this is because my hand is not moving pushing the shopping cart.  Needless to say several hours of shopping later and very few steps recorded.  It works fine otherwise.  I'm wondering if anyone using the other tracker options (fitbit etc.) knows if their machines are capturing these steps.  Trying to decide if I should switch to another device.

Move where you wear your device. For fitbit many wear them on their bra. I put mine on the band of my pants

I know what you are saying.  Try putting the wristband in your pants pocket if your pushing a cart.  It will recognize your movement then.  I love my flex....

I have a Flex and cannot go without it...pretty accurate also.

Unfortunately I don't know anything about the garmin. I do know that with my Misfit I can change where I wear it on my body and it makes a difference.
