I had a vsg instead of rny
I had my surgery yesterday afternoon and instead of getting g the Rny like planned my surgeon opted for the vsg (I have some vitamin deficiencies and he didn't want to force me to depend on them from iv for the rest of my life). I felt SOO prepared going into this for the Rny and I don't know of there is anything different I need to consider with the vsg instead. I plan to call my dietician and speak to my surgeon tomorrow (now that I'm not all drug hazy), but if anyone has tips or tidbits please share :)

You do everything the same as if you had a RNY the post op procedure is the same. I also had a VSG.
Referral- March 2012, Letter April 19, Orientation TWH- June 6, NP - July 3, Sleep Apena test July 16, Internist and SW - July 17, Nutritional class - July 23, Dietician appt. July 30th, Psych-Social appt - Aug 20th. Follow up with doctor sleep apena Aug. 28th Surgeons appt. - Dec. 14th Dr. Jackson. Surgery date - Feb 12 2013 - VSG
Typically and historically, yes. In the new guidelines from the ASMBS (American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons) the use of NSAIDS is now contraindicated for VSG as well. (March 2013 amendment to the 2008 published document)(link: http://asmbs.org/resources/clinical-practice-guidelines-for- the-perioperative-nutritional-metabolic-and-nonsurgical-supp ort-of-the-bariatric-surgery-patient) This makes sense to me. The harms/risks of NSAIDS are no different in RNY and VSG patients. The only difference is that RNY patients have a blind stomach that is not easily scoped in the event of a possible ulcer.
So.... I guess ask your centre what they think but be mindful of the ASMBS guidelines.
