In search of Opti
So I am looking for Opti if anyone has any left over. My room mate screwed me over for rent money. So the money I had aside for opti had to go to mortgage payment. I don't mind buying the opti from someone who lives local to me or I can meet halfway with someone who lives within an hours drive. I need 6 boxes. I have one box being offered to me and would love to a few more boxes before I have to go to Medical Mart and buy the remainder.

I skipped Opti and used Premier protein shakes from Costco instead. My surgery went without a hitch and I lost 26 lbs in 3 weeks on it. Just as an option! I find Opti to be expensive and pound for pound, calorie for calorie... PP shakes are actually better. Doctors push the Opti though because they make money from it, lol.

Interesting. Did your surgeon know you did this? At my hospital they already made me fill out the order sheet. Although it's for a different date since my original date was May 5th and pre op appt Apr 20th. Just waiting to hear back about my new pre op appt now. Did your dr follow up to make sure you were on the opti or just assumed you were taking it? Curious

Of course they didn't, I told them I bought it from a friend. They push Opti so hard because they make money from it. Premier protein has more protein, less calories and tastes better.

Does it do the same thing that OPTI does, supposedly shrink your liver in preparation for surgery?

There is no magic ingredient in Opti that makes it work better than other low carb shakes. Really, any low carb diet will will. The idea is to put yourself into ketosis and lose the fat around the liver - so yes, it does the same thing. As long as you're still following the plan. Cut out coffee, veggies if your center allows it, broth, etc. There's other provinces and places in the US too that do not require a liquid diet at all. Ontario doesn't trust us to make good food choices so they limit you to a low carb, liquid only diet. :)

oh wow...that is excellent to know especially when i'm on such a tight budget and have to pay out of pocket as I'm sure many do
What can one eat / drink with the Protein shakes and is that what they are called? How many do you buy?

They're at Costco for 27 dollars a case, 18 to a case. It took me 4 cases for the 3 weeks and I had some extra... so just over 100 dollars +tax vs the 330 I would have been charged for Opti.
