Hello everyone,

im a little annoyed with my Doctor! I asked my family doctor for a referral for the WLS a couple weeks ago. I just followed up with her and she says she is waiting for the website to respond back to her before she makes the referral. It's hard for me to know if she is telling me the truth or slacking.

My friends doctor had never referred a patient before so together they registered AND did the referral.

how did referrals go for you ??

My doctor had never done one either. She and her receptionist did it together. She called me for any information they didn't have on file that they needed.

My family dr cost me 4 mths of extra waiting by dragging his heels and making excuses......so I went to another dr in his office that got it done while I waited in minutes!  Doctors have a million things on their minds,  keep bugging for answers.

I am wondering if a walk-in doctor would do it? I suspect your doctor is going to drag her feet a lot because she doesn't understand the process. I wish you could come to my doctor.

family Drs are lost. Just get the list of bariatric surgeons and pick one. Tell your Dr to fax referral to the surgeon's office so you can get in for consultation with a surgeon. Have the surgeon register with the Ontario Bariatric board for a file number if your family Dr did not do that. My family Dr did the same thing and the Ontario bariatric registration system has changed so that family Drs can only apply through the website and then according to postal code give your file and registration number to the hospital for your postal code. If you chose a hospital and surgeon all your family Dr has to do is get you in to see that surgeon. Tell the surgeon that your family Dr registered on the website but you did not get registration number yet. One or the other has to happen and when you get the letter from Ontario bariatric saying you have been registered and what hospital you are going to, you can decide if your consult is a better path. Never register twice for the same patient. The government of Ontario is very very serious.

My cardiologist got me a referral to Dr. Theo Grantcharov at St. Mike's. Met him (amazing man) July 2014 & he referred me to the program right away. At the meeting he told me he may not be my surgeon because they draw from a pool. I was extremely disappointed since I'd done my due diligence on him. Ended up with Cyriac at TEGH - did an excellent job last Wed.

If you look on their website, doctors do have to register with them then wait to get approval so she may not be lying. At one time, docs could call and be sent a pad of referral forms since the ID # is on them and then they would fax them in but I see it says that now they are all done online so if your doc is not tech savvy then she may take a bit longer to get it done.  My GP has been online for years and he does all prescriptions that way and referrals to specialists that way.

For the longest time I had a Doctor that refused to send a referral, every time I went to see him it was the same answer as before, "let's talk about that next visit, in the mean time take these pills"

So I finally got sick of hearing that and changed Doctor, first visit to my new Doctor I mentioned to her what I wanted and her answer was " that is the best thing you can do, where do I send it??

So if that Doctor does not help you find an other one that will!!
