He is.  He usually loves feeding everyone so I guess since he can't feed me any more he wants to do something else for me :-).

I told exactly 7 people. Most people in my family don't even know. I did not want to be judged (had enough of that my entire life!). When asked, I've told people I am following a very strict protocol under medical supervision and have given up white carbs, alcohol, and carbonation, and eat very low sugar, and high protein. Happy with the decision I made. The people I have told have been super supportive and I figure it is no one else's business.

Attempting to "keep it private" is, frankly;

1) delusional

Most of the people in your life are likely not idiots, and have probably heard of bariatric surgery in some form, so they will put it together. It's impossible to lose weight naturally as fast as you do post-op, unless you are seriously ill, so it seems unnecessarily cruel to worry people as well.

2) irresponsibly dishonest about the realities of weight loss

Again, it is impossible to lose weight naturally like you can with WLS and there ought to be no shame in having WLS. It is a medical treatment for a medical problem. By lying and misleading people that you've somehow lost 100 pounds with a diet change and hitting the gym does a gross mis-service to the people who might believe you and attempt to do that themselves (only to fail), and have it worsen their self-loathing as they wonder why they can't do it if you can. I think its wrong to make them think you, or they, can and perpetuate the myth that obesity is a problem of will power and laziness... because it's not.

If you're not willing to be honest about WLS, or else confidently tell people that you don't wish to discuss it, but you're fine, thanks, and then move on without lying about how you're losing weight... then perhaps you should be having a conversation with the social worker/psych person on your team regarding the shame or other issues you're dealing with.
