Hello everyone! I live in Indianapolis, IN and am looking for a good plastics surgeon. I need my arms done and a tummy tuck and a breast lift. Any local recommendations. And any tricks on getting insurance to approve?

Thanks in advance!

I would suggest looking for one of our members of the American Society of Bariatric Plastic Surgeons in your area. Our website offers much info on all procedures and all our plastic surgeons have a special interest in this specialized field in addition to being certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery . I am presently its President.

What are the criteria or qualifications a plastic surgeon has to meet in order to be a sub-specialist in post bariatric plastic surgery?

There are no criteria that a plastic surgeon needs to meet apart from obtaining privileges in his hospital for those particular procedures. Through the American Society of Bariatric PLastic Surgeons, I am in the process of beginning a program that would signify certain centers as Centers of Excellence in Bariatric Plastic Surgery.

A center of excellence would be very helpful to patients to find plastic surgeons with breathe and depth of experience in body contouring after massive weight loss. I have seen a HUGE difference in patient outcomes who have gone to plastic surgeons who have sub- specialty, if you will, in Bariatric plastic surgery.

I totally agree with you and that is why we have the American Society of Bariatric Plastic Surgeons which has a limited amount of plastic surgeons.

Yes, but by not having criteria established to qualify a plastic surgeon as having excellence in post Bariatric plastics then the doctors are merely self identifying. They may or may not have reached a level of excellence in that category. But criteria to become a cent of excellence would establish criteria needed to be met for this distinction. It would be a very good thing.
