Has anyone had a thigh and arm lift at the same time and care to share what it cost for the combined procedure and what the recovery was like ? Also what type incisions on the thighs ?

I've been doing a lot of reading about thigh lifts since I've got mine scheduled for November and I'm currently recovering from a brachioplasty. Based on my reading about the challenges and complications that thigh lifts can have and my experience of brachioplasty, I don't think there's any way I would combine these two. It seems like it would be hard to get out of chairs/bed if you can't use your legs or your arms to propel you. I guess living in an electric lift recliner is a possibility?

Of course, there are people who say they'd never do lower body lift and arms together, and that's what I did and it has been okay so... I recommend asking your surgeon about this!

I have a consultation for my brachioplasty aug 7 so I will talk with him about it. Definitely don't think it's a good idea to combine those 2 certain procedures after reading everyone's feedback. I hadn't really considered it being that bad, I was just thinking of saving money and killing 2 birds with 1 stone like I did when I had my breast and tummy done at the same time, I received a huge discount because I was doing the combined procedure !

How is your recovery going ? Would you recommend the procedure ? I keep wondering about if the scars will be worth the trade off for the saggy baggy arm skin that my kids like to swing

I'm super pleased with my arms. I love where my surgeon places the incisions because the only way people will see the scars is if my arms are up over my head - when my arms are at my sides, they're pretty much invisible. But scars weren't a concern for me, so I can't say if the trade off would be worth it to you.

What I do love most so far is how clothes fit :) And I can't wait to start exercising again next week!

Oh, I didn't answer the recovery part. My arm recovery is going super well! The LBL was very challenging due to the muscle tightening primarily, but the arms have been great in terms of recovery. I'm about 40 days post-op now and couldn't be happier :D

Personally (and I'm definitely NOT a doctor), I can't see how this would be an easy or reasonable recovery without a LOT of pain meds for a long time and I say that because I'd asked my PS about both surgeries and she said you really need upper body strength after a medial thigh lift because you basically cannot put any weight on the legs and will have very limited range of motion for several weeks after while incisions heal so will use your arms to take on a lot of the load your lower body would normally manage.

Alternately, with brachioplasty, as Gwen can likely attest, your arms are not able to do much for you for quite some time while the incisions heal. They will be bound and elevated and you cannot use them to get up/lie down, even wash up for a while.

If your arms are out of commission and your legs are out of commission (weight and lifting restrictions, limited range of motion) how will you move around? Getting up, sitting down, eating, using the toilet etc. My doc says the thigh lift is a biggie with a big recovery and prefers not to couple it with any other surgeries.

Her incisions are at the groin and halfway around the front of the leg/groin crease and from groin down to inside of knee. That would be for the full on thigh lift. Some folks just get a crescent shaped lift at teh tops of the legs because skin isn't so saggy lower down.

Any way you could do the surgeries separately?

Plastic surgeons generally want to work on one area at a time. Upper arms and breasts are often combined as are tummy tucks and thighs.

This is partly because of the amount of time spent under anesthesia is greatly increased when you are have surgery in multiple areas.

And then there is the recovery...

I would be very cautious about going to a surgeon who would do both at once.

Actually tummy tucks and thighs aren't commonly combined because those are both massive surgeries in and of themselves and the tensions from the sutures pull in opposing directions.
