How fast was your weight loss after WLS?

Did you lose fast or slower or normal rate?  I have pcos and am looking at having the RNY done or possibly lap-band.  Is the weight coming off?  How quickly?  I am afraid of it taking a long time to come off!  I am also insulin resistant. Thanks, Starfish

I am 11 days post-op and I have lost 25 pds.  I do not know if this is normal, I am on a clear liqid diet until 2wks post-op.  I also have pcos and am insulin resistent.  I feel great, the lap RNY is the best thing I have ever done for myself. Good Luck, I will update you as weeks go on. Small52

I am 5 weeks out of surgery.  I had RNY and PCOS.  I have lost a total of 29 pds since surgery.  I know i could have dropped a few more pounds if i exercised more but.... i had gotten my first period in 9 months..... and was not feeling so good.... the cramps!!! ugh.... I .. was... hypoglycemic..... and i have no issues..... i hope this helps... If you get lapband.... your weight is going to come off slower..... from what i hear..... i could be wrong though....... Talk to ur doc... let me know how things go.. Take care... Christine

Hi Starfish!  I had lap RNY 2.5 years ago and was a fast looser.  I had 114 lbs to loose to get to my goal weight of 140 and lost my first 100 lbs in 6 months.  But then it took me an additional 6 months to loose the remaining 14 lbs.  I also have PCOS & had IR that later turned into type II diabetes.  Since surgery I went from zero cycles a year to regular 36 day cycles WITH ovulation!    Finally...after 8+ years of failed fertility treatments...and 9+ years after we started TTC I got pregnant our first month not using protection and now have a beautiful 7 month old daughter.  I'm on another website called soulcysters.com & on the diet & exercise forum there's a thread called "WLS DIVAS"...we have all had some type of WLS (or are in the process of it) and we all have PCOS.  If you like, I can PM you a link to the thread.  SC.com is free to join & an awesome PCOS support website.  Oh...I did want to say that I'm glad I chose the RNY...it seems that the cysters on my WLS Divas thread who have had the lapband are having a harder time loosing weight than those cysters who had the RNY. If not...just ask questions here...I'd be happy to answer to the best of my ability!! Kristy

Hello fellow Cyster...LOL!  I had my RNY four months ago and have lost 80lbs as of this morning.  Am on depo-provera shots to prevent pregnancy (yep...actually have to prevent that after surgery...I know, so abnormal for a PCOS gal to have to even think about preventing pregnancy!! LOL) Don't be afraid...this WLS journey is quite a ride but well worth it!!

Hi Starfish! I am currently 12 weeks out and I have lost a total of 77 pounds. I will be at my 3 month mark on the 18 of April. My periods have been regular but extrememly heavy. This makes for major difficulty because I am a Telecomunicator(911) and I work 12 hour rotating shifts. They started me on a pill to control bleeding/ not birth control (hubby took care of that). I had top change pills because the orthos made me swell. I had approx 15lbs of fluid on me the Dr said. I am currently taking Yasmen.I just ended my 12th day of my cycle. (Now that is something that I may not be able to handle long term) My OBGYN wants to do a oblasion(may be mispelled) (*****unced- O-blay_sion) or either the unsual procedure. I decided to wait until I am about 6 months out to see if it will slack up some if I can stand it until then. I dont regret and decision to have RNY. I feel absolutely wonderful. I may have lost more weight if I could really excercise like I want. Do to my schedule I am not able to. I work 645am to 700pm or 645pm to 700am. We work a Dupoint schedule. When you say insulin resistant what exactly are you saying, as I have not been told that yet. Best wishes and contact me any time on yahoo also at [email protected].
