Hello everyone!

I'm 8months post op, been diagnosed with PCOS since Apr. 2002, and have been TTC since 1998. I'm hoping that losing weight (I've lost 160 lbs so far) that my chances for a family is still possible.

Have any of you achieved pregnancy after significant weight loss?

Do not give up hope!

I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 19 (after many years of irregular periods, facial hair, etc.) I was put on the pill at 13 to "regulate" my periods. Fast foward to 1999, at age 25 when I got married and came off the pill so we could immediately start trying. No luck, stil irregular, frustrated and tried almost everything short of IVF. Lost hope and gave up.

March 25, 2010 - Gastric Bypass (RNY) and lost 130 lbs by Dec 2010.
No more diabetes, no more high blood pressure, no more sleep apnea...yay!
The doctor cautioned me that my fertility could be affected and not to get pregnant before 18 months post surgery. Wen to my 18 month check up, have maintained my weight and all vitamin levels are good, so I got the green light to try!!

October 30th, 2011 - Went to the Walgreen's Take Care Clinic for an eye infection and found out I am PREGNANT!!! (Had to take a uring test to make sure in case I needed antibiotics). What a shock!! Thought it would never happen.

I am almost 8 weeks along now, due on July 3rd, 2012! I am 37 and will be 38 when I deliver.

Good luck to you!

Wow! How exciting! I know I would be over the moon if I found out I was pregnant. Excellent news for you and so happy for you, too!

Thank you for that ray of hope. I'm 8mos post op right now and my last period was June I believe. I'm getting worried at the absence of it. I'd been irregular since my first period at age 13, but for about 5-6mos just before the surgery I was like clockwork! I'm guessing it was because of the weight loss before the surgery.

But after the surgery I thought I'd regulate immediately...nope. So, now I'm doubly worried. Haven't told my doc yet, but I definitely will after I post this.

Thank you again! I thank you for taking the time to tell me of your success. I'm hoping to join you! :)

I will keep you in my thoughts and hope all gets straightened out for you!  I know that it is easy to get discouraged (been there, done that!) but try to stay positive and know that there is a plan for you!  It just might not be on the schedule that we want it to be!

Chin up, and look at the bright side (so far)...you are losing and doing great.  You are on your way to the healthiest you have been in a long time!  Love that and rock the new you...everything else will come in due time.

I was diagnosed w/PCOS i***** Was advised that I would never have children of my own. I attempted all fertility treatments short of surrogacy. I had never had a menstral cycle on my own...never----was always drug induced. On the morning of my RNY I got my period on my own, and have had it every month just like clock work ever since. My son is 18mths old now and he is a DREAM COME TRUE!!!!! I never had a problem being a "Big Girl" but I wantred to be a mom, and that was my goal in WLS and I succeeded. I did wait until I was over a yr out and I did great. I gained 12lbs during my entire pregnancy...and I ate continuously! My son weighed 8lbs and I left the hospital the same weight I was when I got pregnant!!!!!  GOOD LUCK!!!!

Did you guys use any form of birth control after having surgery?  I´m scheduled to have surgery May 14, 2012 and have PCOS.  I also have a double uterus.  My fertility specialist seems to think my chances of getting pregnant are slim to none, but I still think I might should use birth control just in case.  Any advice?

I had PCOS since I was 19, had to take Clomid and Provera to get preggers with my #2 son at 21yrs old, got pregnant with #3 12 months later. Had gastric bypass in 05 and 7months post op- on the pill- I got pregnant and delivered a healthy baby. He was 8 weeks early but that was not bypass related- I gained 7pounds total and he was 5lbs 4oz. Keep your chin up, it can happen! I am a mom of four sons and had PCOS!
