Possible obstruction?-Updated!

So while I wait for a call back from Surgeon's office thought I would pick your brains. For past three weeks I have had unbearable constipation. It takes me at least 5-6 days between movements. I increased water, fiber, miralax...nothing. Even passing gas has been an issue. Last night and today I have some really intense abdominal pain, but was able to go. It is liquid, and blood in stool (not so worried about that I know with strain could happen). Since friday my pouch has also been on FIRE. Even water hurts.

I saw my Ob yesterday and he didn't seem concerned, but this morning the pain really has me scared. Could this just be bad constipation? Obstruction? Baby related? Ugh I hate the waiting game

I would get that check out ASAP. Pain in the abdomin and inability to pass gas are not good. My mom had the same issue and waited a week and it turned out she had a complete obstruction.Better be safe than sorry.

I am hoping you are out getting medical work up now...obstructions are more common during pregnancy.  I'm not trying to be pushy-but really- I wouldnt be waiting around for a return call if they tend to not act within an hour or two.  I remember reading several times about woman who have almost died...not being able to go that can be common, but the pain / liguid stools, and blood are reasons to be at the ER / DR office now.  Good luck and keep us posted.

The surgeon called just as i was headed out the door, and his assesment was its basically bad constipation. Said with an obstruction the pain wouldn't be resolved with warm baths, and rest like I have been doing. He said I can come in on Monday if still struggling but doesn't think its needed.... Honestly, I don't know how much I trust that assessment, but he said if I go to ER they can't do Xray or CT due to pregnancy, so would jst be sent home?

Make sure to read my other reply. They CAN do an x-ray. It's safe enough for the baby. THey can and should do an MRI. Just no Cat scan.
Next an intussusception has intermittant pain. It's not constant. SO he is wrong!!! Get a 2nd opinion! The bowel is not dead yet if this is what it is. That's why the pain is not consistent like an obstruction. BUT if not found in a timely matter it will die. Most doctors don't automatically think of this. It's rare in adults! AND like I said very hard to diagnose in pregnant women!

I just had a bowel intussusception . It is incredibly painful and also very hard to diagnose in pregnant women. You must go to the ER. What you are experiencing is not normal. I don't care what your doctor says. It's not normal. Not to scare you, but to tell you how serious this is, you have a small window of time before this becomes deadly. I had similar symptoms.Blood in stool is a major sign! I was also able to have occasional very small bowel movements and some passing of gas...when I couldn't do either the pain was intense. I also had very runny bowel movements at times, I also had vomiting. Go! Look up bowel intussusception before going so you can be educated. Oh and they can do an ultrasound of bowels, x-ray, and MRI. No need to do a ct scan for the baby's sake! I refused it. Another thing.. in my case they couldn't find anything on the scans but my surgeon new something wasn't right. So he did emergency exploratory surgery and found it. If he wouldn't have done that I would be dead. I am not suggesting this, but try to trust the doctor. Ask to be seen by a specialist and if you mention the intussusception they may be more aware of what to look for. Also there is another woman on this board who had the same thing. SO this can be common in pregnancy.
Good luck hun! Fight for answers!

So I went in to ER and mentioned everything that had been going on. I mentioned things it could be due to my surgery, and the PA told me....I don't know what we can do with you, we won't do xrays on pregnant women. He had to check with his attending to see next step.
So they moved me into another room, put an IV (no fluids, just an iv) and took three things of blood. I laid there for FOUR hours for him to come back and tell me, "I spoke to your surgeon and your OB and they think its just normal constipation, and want you to take these suppositories for 7 days"

Um...no ultrasound, no checking baby even (was having abdominal pain)...nothing other than physical exam of belly and blood work. I was so upset I said, what if it is an obstruction and you send me home to die?  (MM told me to be dramatic if need be lol)

He had no answer for me, other than based on two doctor's and his own attending there was nothing more they could do. So I was sent home with suppositories, and told to use a lot of benefiber. If I don't move anything by this afternoon, my surgeon wants to see me in his office.

UGH

This basically is what happened to me the 1st time I went in. They sent me home. Didn't do anything but blood work. I knew something wasn't right so I called my surgeon in MN. (I live on an army base in GA)
He told me to get there right away. Next day I flew to MN, after x-rays, ultrasounds, and MRI...still none that showed anything he chose to do the exploratory surgery. The original doctors did send me home to die. We are so upset about this and trying to get this dealt with..
I suggest you write all of your symptoms down. Be very specific. God- willing its' just constipation. I really hope that is the case. Just be prepared and fight for you care.
Stay in contact with your surgeon!! If what they have given you isn't working then call him!
Keep me posted! I will pray for you! I know how scary it is not knowing!

Yeesh! I have to say that the whole experience sounds like a 3 Stooges scene! Why-oh-why would they not, at the very least, check on the baby? Bowel issues after any WLS should always been followed up on......I cant imagine a surgeon let alone an OB not taking action.

Please keep yourself tuned into your body and dont be afraid to turn around and head right back to the ER if you dont feel any better!
