Proximal or distal?

At doctor today, I asked nurse if my RNY was proximal or distal. She said I had a 100-cm limb but didn't know if this was proximal or distal. It is my understanding that this is a proximal RNY (longer limb) and that I could go shorter to be distal, right? Someone please explain this to me. It is so confusing. Thanks!!!!
